PUF shells serve for tubing and pipe coupling heat insulation. They can be reused in repair of pipelining and containers. Shell heat insulation is usually used for subsurface crawlways and above-ground pipelining and for underground channelless tubing as well.

There is no need of protecting jackets for PUF shells in subsurface crawlways. Bituminous cement and ruberoid are used as waterproofing materials for above-ground pipelining or subsurface channelless tubing.
